Get a Grip! Strength Drills for Healthy Hands, Arms, and Shoulders

with Annie Adamson

Style: Conditioning

Duration: 30 min

Intensity: Moderate

Props: Blanket, Blocks

Class Description

We yogis spend a lot of time placing our body weight on the tiny bones of our wrists, which are constantly in extension. Additionally, we rarely do grip-strength training in class, yet we're often asked to "grip the mat."

Fill in the gaps with this class, which includes warm-ups and drills that will strengthen and mobilize underused muscles in the fingers, wrists, forearms, and shoulders.

Using various props, you'll lift, pull, toss, and reach, and after each movement exploration, have the chance to take a weight-bearing pose to notice subtle changes in your experience.

For this class you'll need: a staff (a Primal Vinyasa Danda™ , or broomstick handle, or curtain rod), a weighted malleable bag such as the Primal Vinyasa Apex™  (or a handkerchief filled with coins or rice), a bucket of rice, 2 blocks
