LEARN HOW TO CONFIDENTLY TEACH YOGA TO BEGINNERS ONLINE

Teaching True Beginners Online will equip both new and experienced teachers with the tools, techniques, and perspectives necessary to offer online yoga classes to beginners.

Teaching beginners can be very rewarding because it allows you to introduce people to yoga and expand your circle of students. And yet, for all of the joys of teaching beginners, many teachers find this work comes with its own unique challenges.

Using her down-to-earth, clear, and precise teaching style, Christina Sell will help you navigate the challenges of teaching the true beginner—someone who has never practiced yoga before. While this course will focus on offering online beginner yoga classes, the practical skills you learn can be applied to both online and in-person classes that are suitable for students of all levels.

This course is for all levels of yoga teachers. New teachers will learn techniques that can increase their confidence, improve their verbal cues, and clarify their understanding of basic poses. Experienced teachers will enjoy returning to the fundamentals of sequencing and learn progressive teaching methods that can expand their ability to teach familiar poses and concepts without relying on habitual patterns. If you’re a teacher trainer, you can expect to learn teaching drills and gain resources you can use in your own trainings.

This nine-hour course will cover how to:

  • Design curriculum, including suggestions for alignment-oriented approaches and vinyasa classes.

  • Utilize multiple teaching strategies such as sequencing, modifications, and your verbal articulation skills.

  • Understand your own teaching style to craft an authentic offering.

Participants should expect discussion, writing assignments, and simple asana practices throughout each session.

SESSION BREAKDOWN:

Session 1: Curriculum Design

The focus for this session will be context and clarity. As we become clear about our aims and unique teaching circumstances, each participant will design their own curriculum in a way that is thoughtful, responsive, and authentic. We’ll explore topics through a dynamic blend of Christina’s engaging conversationally oriented lectures, written assignments, and experiential exercises.

Session 2: Verbal Articulation Skills

Having established a clear aim and intention for your curriculum design on day one, we’ll bring the same clarity and focus to our use of language. While asana practice is highly experiential, teaching yoga effectively requires articulation skills that describe, instruct, explain, and guide attention, movement, and action. With a focus on using clear verbal cues, this session will delve into the best use of language to describe complex ideas that will help bring clarity and ease to the learning process for new students.

Session 3: Sequencing Strategies, Modifications, and Learning as a Process

This session will build upon the first two days of curriculum design and verbal skills by helping you continue to clarify, deepen, and refine these tools. We’ll work to understand, explore, plan, and present sequencing strategies with the intention of inspiring a long-lasting relationship to teaching as a practice. You can expect to clarify the differences between and best uses of cues, explanations, and demonstrations for both presenting postures in their basic form as well as tools for making corrections and adjustments.
