Interview with Sianna Sherman
What style, tradition, and/or lineage are you a part of (if any)?
I teach Rasa Yoga, which has been born out of my love for the integrated practices of yoga, Tantra, artistic expression, and the power of shadow work and emotional intelligence. The integrated practices of Rasa Yoga include: mantra, mudra, asana, functional anatomy, pranayama, meditation, Tantric philosophy, mythic consciousness, shadow work, emotional intelligence, yoga ritual and soul alchemy.
What can I expect from your classes on YI?
My classes are a soulful integration of asana, mantra, mudra, myth, pranayama, meditation, functional anatomy, Tantric yoga philosophy, shadow work, and soul alchemy. Devotion infuses everything I offer and I weave science, physical and subtle body wisdom, mysticism, and magic into the practices. Some classes have a particular thematic focus and apex pose with specific biomechanics while other classes are an embodied ritual flow with the feeling of being on a journey. I like to offer a spectrum of possibilities to help the practitioner cultivate a well-rounded embodiment of yoga, both on the mat and in life. I often say that Rasa Yoga is dedicated to the “Alchemy of Yoga & Artistry of Life”.
What’s on your mind these days yoga-wise?
What’s on my mind and in my heart these days is the intersection of yoga and social justice, how to transform race, unpacking my white privilege in the yoga world and the world at large, the embrace of yoga and shadow work, and knowing how I can truly serve with the greatest impact for All Beings.
What do you like to do outside of yoga?
Yoga is the essence of my life, and everything I “do outside of yoga” is really an emanation of the heart of yoga. I cherish being with my Beloved, Masood Ali Khan, and playing with the 3 little T’s in my life: Tristan, Taj, and Taylor - the children who light up my heart and hold me accountable with immediate remembrance for the future generations. Being in nature is my refuge and it’s how I ground, rejuvenate and download inspiration. I love to sing and chant mantras with my drum, dance, write, tell mythic stories, and explore my creative expression. I adore being in Sisterhood with other women and I facilitate women’s circles and trainings in the Path of the Priestess called RITUAL, which stands for: Remembrance, Initiation, Transmission, Understanding, Alchemy, and Love. I am inspired to live in ritual and rhythm, magic and mystery, community and celebration with the
Whole of Life.
