Forward Bend: To Roll Up or Not to Roll Up?


Have you ever been instructed to "roll up" to standing from a forward fold in a yoga class? The way many students tend to follow this cue, by rounding the shoulders and pulling up, can be problematic over time. In this five-minute tutorial, Jonina illustrates how slower, controlled undulation in the lumbar spine leads to a safer "hinge" at the waist when transitioning from forward fold to standing.
