Sometimes we're out of balance but don't recognize it because our habits are so ingrained they become second nature to us. We live our lives on autopilot, and our daily routine may be ignoring some basic need for self-care. How do we begin to notice when something is off and bring life back to wholeness? Our yoga practice can nourish us and help us be aware of imbalances, but practice and other self-discipline—what we call tapas—can also create imbalances if overdone or done in a regimented way. Do we need something that nourishes the heart, as well as thoughtful discipline, in order to stay balanced?
