New Year’s Resolutions: Often-Unkept Promises

Karma versus shakti

Why don’t we fulfill our New Year’s resolutions? According to the yoga tradition, it’s because we are stuck in our habits or karma—deeply ingrained patterns of thought, speech, and action. How do we overcome these patterns? By making our iccha shakti, the power of will and manifestation within us, stronger than our patterns. We can strengthen iccha shakti and create new patterns through yogic and tantric practices such as meditation and sankalpa (intention setting).
