Prakriti vs. Vikriti: Nature vs. Imbalance

The terms prakriti and vikriti are frequently used in Ayurveda, but what do they really mean and how are they different from each other?  Prakriti is our elemental nature and Vikriti is the imbalance that results when we are not living in harmony with that nature.
