Yoga and Samkhya Philosophy: How Are They Related?
If you’re like a lot of us, you’ve heard of Samkhya philosophy but are a bit hazy about what it actually says and how it relates to yoga. Ishan explains that yoga is the practice of Samkhya philosophy. He describes Samkhya’s view of the universe—that all energy and matter have evolved from pure consciousness (a view quite different from that of modern science)—and he comments that yoga, with its focus on the mind, is the process of involution, moving inward from gross to subtle, back to pure consciousness.
Son of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Ishan Tigunait received his first spiritual lessons from Swami Rama. He earned a degree in computer engineering and worked for IBM before returning to the Institute to lead the Himalayan Institute's humanitarian projects around the world. Ishan currently serves as the Executive Director of the Himalayan Institute.
