Uddiyana bandha is considered one of the three classical bandha asanas and is not only practiced to strengthen and tone abdominal muscles, but also to practice meditative, controlled breathing and to energize the body. In Sanskrit, uddiyana means “upward” and bandha means “binding," "uniting" or "contracting.” In this tutorial, Luke explains some common perspectives about "unlocking" uddiyana bandha. He will teach you how to engage this bandha during asana practice, as well as how to understand and experience it from a classical hatha perspective that centers more on diaphragmatic breathing.
