This practice-based workshop with yoga teacher, bodyworker, and trigger point specialist Cat Matlock will teach you how to use therapy balls to alleviate hip tension, which can result from sciatica and sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction.
You'll get a short hip-focused anatomy lesson, practice alignment-based asana, and learn simple self-massage practices you can do with therapy balls. After exploring the therapy ball techniques, you'll do some basic stretches and repeat certain asanas to see if and how your tension has shifted (you may be surprised at how quickly things can change!).
If you don't have a therapy ball you can use a foam roller, a tennis ball, or a yoga block. Grab your prop and begin!
Cat Matlock
Cat Matlock has been a licensed massage therapist and bodyworker since 1993, dedicating her practice to the understanding and relieving of the tensional systems which create chronic pain in our bodies. After 25 years and thousands of hours of study and practice, she believes the key to effectively releasing these tensional patterns is in combining simple fascial connective tissue opening with the compressive release of trigger points. Cat believes that it is important to work at the edge of discomfort, sinking into the body, not plowing into tight and constricted areas causing the tissue to reflexively react to protect itself.
