Challenge Overview

This well-rounded program is designed for people over 50 or anyone looking for a thoughtful, breath-focused, and fun approach to foundational yoga. Each class begins with a warm-up and is followed by an easy-to-follow, feel-good sequence where you’ll learn a lot about the key benefits of the poses you’re doing. Larry offers you both traditional versions and variations of classic poses, like child’s pose, triangle, and warrior l, that you can further customize according to your body’s needs.

There are two general conditioning yoga classes for level 1, two general conditioning yoga classes for level 2, and a wall yoga class. The level 2 classes build on the skills from the level 1 classes and offer more challenge in terms of balance, core-strengthening, and movement. The wall class is a complete practice where you’ll experience the many beneficial ways that the wall can support you.

Section 1
  • Larry welcomes you to the program, breaks down some of yoga’s key benefits for people over 50, and explains the three basic principles of this course.
Section 2
  • In this breath-focused class designed for people over 50, Larry guides you through a sequence of foundational yoga poses, offering you variations along the way so you can tailor each one to your body’s needs. You’ll start standing with a sun salutation variation, do a supine backbending series, a fun balance pose called “the karate kid,” and more, before concluding with easy wind-down stretches. Take this opportunity to listen to your body and truly enjoy each pose!
  • This class begins with focused breathing and a supine warm-up. Then, you’ll do a standing sequence where Larry offers you tips for adapting the poses to make them more comfortable for you. After that, you’ll do a core-strengthening series on hands and knees and then on your back, followed by a dynamic bridge pose variation. In the second half of class you’ll do a customizable, bolster-supported legs up the wall pose, followed by prone backbends where you’ll do leg lifts to strengthen your back. Class concludes with leg stretches and a relaxing “shhh” breathing practice, which you’ll do lying down....
Section 3
  • This level 2 class begins with “chest to belly” breathing, a practice that can be helpful for your posture. Then, you’ll do half sun salutations with an added balance challenge, a standing sequence that includes tree pose, followed by supine abdominal strengtheners, half shoulderstand variations, reverse plank pose, seated hip openers, and more. Wind down at the end with feel-good twists and a short, relaxing breathing technique.
  • In this level 2 class, you’ll begin with focused breathing, followed by flowing movements in warrior l and triangle pose designed to mobilize your joints. After that, you’ll do core-strengthening work on hands and knees, pigeon variations to slowly open your hips, gentle movement to ease into a seated forward bend, calming reclined twists, and more. Relax at the end as Larry guides you through a short body scan you’ll do lying down.
Section 4
  • In this class you’ll use the wall for support and stability. You’ll do a complete practice that includes standing poses, balance work, core-strengthening work, inversions, seated twists, and more. Rest at the end with your legs up the wall as Larry guides you in a simple focused breathing practice.
