Taking About Yoga and Cancer Part 3: Unexpected Lessons

Cancer has many gifts. One that a teacher helped Karina recognize is the gift of tapas—heat created by the friction produced when we are challenged by something that rubs us the wrong way. Tapas leaves us more radiant and makes us more who we were meant to be. Another gift of cancer is that it slows us down, makes us more mindful and present, and teaches us to enjoy our lives more fully.

Karina Mirsky is a certified ParaYoga teacher and the director of Sangha Yoga in Kalamazoo, MI. She holds a master’s degree in East/West Psychology and is an adjunct professor of Yoga Studies at Antioch University Midwest.
