Along with sirsasana (headstand), sarvangasana (shoulderstand) is central to Iyengar Yoga. (In this style of yoga, sarvangasana is learned before sirsasana.)
In this second stage of the practice,* you’ll learn to move in and out of sarvangasana by raising your legs together from halasana (plow pose). Learning to practice shoulderstand this way will prepare you for the same execution in headstand. (Michelle suggests practicing this entry into the pose only if you’re comfortable doing halasana with your feet on the floor.)
