Course Overview

Ever feel like you need to step away from the world and hit the reset button? In this program of short practices for difficult times, yoga teacher and author Cyndi Lee offers you six short sessions (all are under ten minutes) designed to help you shift your mindset, get grounded, and cultivate a sense of humor about life. The practices can be done anywhere, at any time.

Throughout the sessions, Cyndi shares stories and teachings from the Buddhist tradition and from everyday life that have been valuable to her. She also offers you breathing and standing practices to help you quell anxiety, recharge your energy, cultivate patience, address nagging thoughts, and unhook from what’s bothering you. With a light, humorous tone, Cyndi provides opportunities for you to self-reflect as she tells funny anecdotes about trying to cope with everyday frustrations, such as searching endlessly for a parking spot and listening to noisy lawn mowers outside in the summertime.

The practices are: The Impermanence of Anxiousness, Take a Fresh Start, The Art of Being Patient, Change Your Mind and Relax With Things as They Are, What Are You Carrying?, and Finding Equanimity.

Enjoy these invitations to take refuge in a meaningful and lighthearted way!

Section 1
  • Cyndi shares stories—her own and others’—that both illustrate how feelings of anxiousness can overwhelm us and give us steps we can take to acknowledge and quell anxiety. At the end of the talk, you’ll do a short equal breathing practice that’s designed to help you feel grounded and present.
Section 2
  • In this short talk, Cyndi discusses how we can step into our potential by connecting with a feeling of wakefulness and energy. Learn how every moment can feel fresh and new if we can shift our mindset.
Section 3
  • Cyndi talks about how patience is a gift, discusses the obstacles to patience (especially during challenging times), and shares how you can cultivate patience and positive energy in your life. After that, you’ll do a short breath-focused patience practice.
Section 4
  • In this engaging talk, Cyndi shares lojong (a practice that includes Buddhist teachings to train your mind). You’ll learn how this practice can feel liberating and relaxing, particularly when you’re feeling bothered. You’ll also hear some funny stories about how to get unstuck from anger.
Section 5
  • Cyndi talks about how we can deal with nagging thoughts and feelings by doing a simple reflective practice. She also shares one of her favorite Zen stories to illustrate how easy it can sometimes be to let go of what’s getting in your way.
Section 6
  • What is equanimity and how can we find it in our everyday lives? In this talk, Cyndi shares how we can cultivate “fluid stability” by unhooking from what’s bothering us. You’ll then do a short standing practice for staying stable within the movement of your world. If standing is uncomfortable or unavailable to you for any reason, you can do this practice seated.
