Challenge Overview

Want to brush up on your alignment and learn how to make common asanas more safe and accessible (for you or your yoga students)?

Join our seven-day Back to Yoga School Challenge!

Each day, for seven days, you'll receive a short yet info-packed video tutorial from one of our expert teachers breaking down one of your favorite asanas or transitions. Each one is full of helpful alignment hints, creative variations and adaptations, and useful tidbits to help you take your asana practice (or your classes) to the next level.

Section 1
  • Downdog-to-lunge got you down? Join Nikki and learn the proper mechanics of stepping to the top of the mat. With a few imperceptible but important shifts in form, you’ll be elegantly placing your foot between your hands in no time!
Section 2
  • You may have heard your teacher cue "knees-chest-chin" in your yoga classes, but maybe this transition is still a little bit of a mystery. Join Jessica in this point-by-point tutorial that breaks knees-chest-chin down into easy-to-understand detail. This session incorporates a prop to help you with form and offers modifications. Whew! One more thing made easy!
Section 3
  • Here’s a way to teach trikonasana that doesn’t cause or aggravate low back injuries, because it doesn’t torque the sacrum and pelvis. Learn a couple of different ways to get into the pose and how not to do the pose (including a common cue to avoid). This helpful guidance will allow your students with low back problems to approach this posture with confidence rather than dread and to experience the full energy and power of the pose.Props: 2 yoga blocks.
Section 4
  • Bound triangle causing problems? Join Jessica and discover a few tips to make this challenging pose fun and safe. You'll discover how to address critical areas of concern and learn modifications to make the pose more doable. This session is great for teachers or students. Enjoy!
Section 5
  • Let's learn how to hop up into handstand! Emphasizing breath, alignment, power, and integrity, Kat puts a new twist on this invigorating challenge so that balancing on your hands is exciting and accessible. Have fun and reach your toes for the stars!
Section 6
  • Empower your ardha chandrasana (balancing half moon) with energy and stability. Watch and learn how to protect your sacroiliac (SI) joints so you can move into the pose safely and strongly.
Section 7
  • What’s the difference between cobra and upward facing dog? Do you get asked that question a lot? Or have you asked it? Follow Kat as she gives some quick little alignment cues to make upward facing dog safe and active, without letting the lower back take all the pressure.
