Course Overview

Mudra means “seal,” “mark,” or “gesture.” In the alchemy of yoga, it’s considered an essential practice to assist healthy circuitry in both the physical and subtle bodies. In this program, you’ll explore 13 hasta mudras (hand mudras). They each have their own “medicine and magic,” and Sianna will show you how to weave them into your practice and your everyday life. You’ll also explore the ways in which mudra is related to the five great elements (maha bhutas) and the three doshas of ayurveda. Ready to dive in?

Section 1
  • Sianna explains what mudras are and how they can benefit you. She also fondly recalls the first mudra she learned and shares how mudras have enriched both her yoga practice and life. This module also includes information about how mudras have been depicted in spiritual iconography, specifically in relation to Buddha, Nataraja, Lakshmi, Green Tara, Durga, and Hanuman.
  • In this module, you'll do hand warm-ups that will also warm up the wrists, forearms, and shoulders. These feel-good exercises will prepare you for the mudra practices to come, and they are especially useful for anyone who regularly works with their hands.
  • In this module, you'll explore the pancha maha bhutas (the five elements of earth, air, fire, water, and ether) and learn how they relate to mudra practice.
  • The first mudra taught in this course is commonly referred to as anjali mudra, however the correct name is namaste mudra.
