Learn how to combine herbs and yoga to relieve physical and emotional tension so that you can sleep well and live in a more relaxed way. In this workshop, Brooke will introduce the benefits of three nervous-system-soothing herbs (chamomile, skullcap, and passionflower), and she’ll share how you can integrate these herbs into your daily life for personal healing. You’ll practice restorative yoga and yoga nidras that relate to and complement these three herbs, and you’ll also learn how to make your own herbal home remedies (including herbal decoctions, infusions, and oils).

In this 4-hour digital course, you will learn:

  • Instruction on making your own home remedies

Section 1
  • Introduction

  • Yoga and Herbs for Insomnia Guide

Section 2
  • Passionflower is a sedative, heart-soothing plant that provides deep relaxation of body and mind. Brooke will tell you everything you need to know about it.
  • Tune in to the waves of breath with this restorative sequence for insomnia. This gentle class honors passionflower, a sedative herb that can relieve anxiety and cultivates effortlessness and ease of body and mind so that you can sleep and sleep well.
  • Passionflower Yoga Nidra

Section 3
  • Chamomile is a time-tested relaxant that can be used as a digestive tonic (for both emotional and physical digestion). Learn more about it here.
  • Free your heart and mind of emotional tension with this slow and steady chamomile practice. Find softness in strength as you explore movement in simple, grounding, yet spacious postures. We'll begin by connecting deeply with the breath, and conclude with a guided savasana and alternate nostril breathing.
  • Work through your emotions and settle into peace with this calming chamomile yoga nidra.
Section 4
  • If you can't slow down, how can you sleep? Skullcap helps relieve chronic tension and stress, and it can also calm type-A drives. In this segment, Brooke will expand on this, and she'll also explore other benefits that this healing herb has to offer you.
  • This 40-minute skullcap practice is designed for overachievers and to relieve strong emotions related to fear. We'll focus on forward folds, twists, bandhas, breath of fire, and gentle yet quick movement. Brooke focuses on quick movement so that we can meet our busy minds where they are, and then guide our minds toward a sense of steadiness and ease.
  • Unwind from the day, from your worries, and from any anxieties that you have been holding on to with this restful skullcap yoga nidra.
Section 5
  • Learn what an herbal infusion and an herbal decoction are, and then learn how to make them for yourself.
  • Oils are great carriers for herbal medicine. Learn how they can benefit you, and learn how to make them.
  • Honor your body! Learn ayurvedic and yogic tips for applying oil in ways that nurture your body and spirit. This is a great way to quiet the mind and a set a tone of self-care before your yoga nidra practices.
