Talking About Yoga and Cancer Part 2: Change of Identity

Being diagnosed with cancer challenges your identity—the sense of who you are based on your roles in the world. You start asking who you are if you can’t perform those roles. The gift of yoga is that it teaches you to connect with a more authentic and true identity—one that never dies, is never violated, and remains peaceful and free even at times of greatest challenge.

Karina Mirsky is a certified ParaYoga teacher and the director of Sangha Yoga in Kalamazoo, MI. She holds a master’s degree in East/West Psychology and is an adjunct professor of Yoga Studies at Antioch University Midwest.
